Flight schedules until the end of October 2010

30 December, 2009

With thoughts of snow, tinsel and jingle bells now almost a distant memory flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost airline, is ensuring passengers can turn their attention to summer holidays with the announcement of its flight schedules until the end of October 2010.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, said: “The best way to bag the cheapest fares with flydubai is to book early and book online. Releasing our 2010 summer schedule well in advance will allow our customers to plan ahead, giving them the opportunity to book early and take advantage of better rates.

flydubai offers a range of exciting destinations to suit all types of traveller. Reservations can be made now for flights operating until 30 October 2010 to any of flydubai’s 11 operational routes: Beirut-Lebanon, Amman-Jordan, Damascus and Aleppo-Syria, Alexandria-Egypt, Djibouti-Africa, Doha-Qatar, Baku-Azerbaijan, Khartoum-Sudan, Bahrain and Kathmandu-Nepal.

Bookings can be made through flydubai’s website (www.flydubai.com), call centre (04 301 0800) and travel agents.

The flydubai model is simple, with customers paying only for the services they want to receive. The ticket price includes all taxes and one piece of hand baggage, weighing up to 10 kg, per passenger.

Passengers have the option to purchase checked-in baggage in advance at just AED 40 for the first piece and AED 100 for the second, weighing up to 32 kg, subject to availability. Checked baggage at the airport is also strictly subject to availability and passengers are advised to book online early to secure the space, as only pre-purchased baggage can be guaranteed.

A nominal payment of AED 5 allows customers to select their seat and just AED 50 secures the extra legroom positions. Bookings can be changed for a small fee, plus any difference in the fare, and food and drink can be purchased on board.

flydubai operates from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of Dubai International Airport.

About flydubai
Established in March 2008 with start-up capital of AED 250 million, flydubai is Dubai’s first low cost airline. Owned by the government of Dubai, the airline will support the city’s commercial and tourism sectors by serving all travellers, providing them with affordable air links to a range of destinations.

With flydubai, travellers can take 1 piece of hand baggage (weighing up to 10 kg) no larger than 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm on board without charge. If the bag does not meet the cabin requirements, it will be checked into the aircraft hold at a cost of AED 150. For a little extra, passengers can check a bag. Each bag purchased can hold up to 32 kg and not larger than 90 cm x 75 cm x 43 cm. If customers want to take more, an additional bag can be purchased, subject to availability.

Based on a low cost business model, flydubai offers a value-for-money product at an extremely competitive price. Its website (www.flydubai.com) will be an important interface for customers, together with a call centre (+9714 301 0800) and travel partners.

flydubai fly to Kathmandu, Nepal

15 December 2009

flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost airline, was on top of the world after touching down (15 December 2009) in Kathmandu, Nepal, home to the planet’s highest point – Mount Everest. The spectacular Himalayan nation was the second new destination in under a week for the airline after it commenced flights to Bahrain on Sunday.

The dramatic mountain range route becomes the eleventh in flydubai’s network and its first east of Dubai. Kathmandu is also the furthest destination reached by flydubai’s Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft at 3,000kms from Dubai and a flying time of three hours and 55 minutes.

A special welcoming committee including Mr Shtrudhn Prasad Singh, State Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism; Mr Subash Niraula, Officiating CEO, Nepal Tourism Board; Mr Dinesh Prasad Shrestha, General Manager, Tribhuvan International Airport; Mr RS Bajracharya, Deputy Inspector General and Chief of Airport security; Mr SR Prasai, Chairman, Universal Tours and Travels and other officials from the ministry and the Nepal Tourism Board greeted the aircraft and its passengers on arrival.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, was also on board: “This is a great time for flydubai. The past four weeks have been one of the busiest periods since we launched. We signed major aircraft financing agreements worth nearly USD 200 million at the Dubai Airshow and we have opened routes to Khartoum, Baku, Bahrain and now Kathmandu.”

The thriving capital of Nepal is becoming a popular destination for hundreds of thousands of tourists, many of them coming for the breathtaking views and treks of the Himalayas. Almost three times as many tourists have visited the region in the first half of this year as in the same period in 2008, said the country’s tourism authority.

“Our strategy is to combine well-known routes that enjoy a service from many airlines, with routes that are less popular and are under-served by the larger carriers. Kathmandu is a great destination with room for more services and I’m confident that flydubai’s simple, low cost fares will prove to be very popular on this route. Nepal is an experience waiting to happen, and we will make it happen,” Al Ghaith added.

Kathmandu is Nepal’s main business centre and has a population of just over three million. The city is documented by many travellers as one of the most beautiful and mysterious locations in the world, and is often the starting point for travellers who visit the Himalayas and in particular the base camp of Mount Everest each year. Everest reaches a peak of 8,850 metres (29,035 feet).

On the occasion, Mr Shtrudhn Prasad Singh, State Minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism said: “The commencement of flydubai’s direct connection between Dubai and Kathmandu will provide greater access to the Nepali community in UAE and will surely enhance future trade, commerce and tourism between the two countries. We are happy to know that flydubai operating out of Dubai International Airport will provide greater access to world travellers from Dubai into Kathmandu with increased convenience. We welcome flydubai into Nepal.”

flydubai operates four flights a week to Kathmandu. FZ 567 leaves Dubai International Airport’s Terminal 2 at 07:00 and arrives at 12:40 local time on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. The return flight (FZ 568) leaves Kathmandu at 13:40 and arrives in Dubai at 17:10. Fares start from just AED 350 one way.

flydubai’s growing network also includes Beirut-Lebanon, Amman-Jordan, Damascus and Aleppo-Syria, Alexandria-Egypt, Djibouti, Doha-Qatar, Khartoum–Sudan, Baku-Azerbaijan and Bahrain.

Emirates Airline has announced the launch of flights to Amsterdam from 1st May 2010

21 December 2009

Emirates Airline has announced the launch of flights to Amsterdam from 1st May 2010. This is the fourth new destination to be announced this year by the Dubai-based carrier. Durban and Luanda were both launched in October and Tokyo was recently announced with a start date of 28th March 2010.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, said: “We are extremely pleased to announce a new service into Europe at this time and I’m sure it’s a development that will be welcomed with open arms in The Netherlands. Amsterdam is already an important offline market for Emirates and we know there is significant passenger traffic heading from Amsterdam to Dubai and onto Africa, the Indian Sub-continent, Asia and the Far East.”

“This is also a major freight hub and one of the world’s renowned flower centres. Emirates has served The Netherlands as a freighter destination for fifteen years and currently offers six 747-400 freighter flights a week between Dubai and Amsterdam. The daily passenger flight will allow us to bolster our cargo offering by making use of the belly hold capacity,” he added.

The daily, non-stop service from Dubai will be operated with a combination of 777-200LR and 777-300ER aircraft, boasting a three-class configuration and the newest version of ice, the passenger revered in-flight entertainment system.

Bahrain became flydubai’s 10th route as flight FZ015 from Dubai touched down at the Bahrain International Airport on the 13 December 2009. It is the airline’s second GCC destination.

The inaugural flight comes within days of the airline taking delivery of its sixth aircraft and less than a month after the Dubai Airshow, where financing, logistics and maintenance deals worth nearly $200m were announced.

flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith, who was among the passengers of the inaugural flight, spoke at a press conference on arrival. “Bahrain is extremely important to intra-GCC trade. The Kingdom has a history of being a logistics hub and is still investing heavily in that. The King Fahd Causeway, a 25km link to Saudi Arabia, is used by around 12m passengers every year, as well as providing a route for hundreds of thousands of tonnes of cargo to cross between the two Kingdoms. The future causeway to Qatar will further enhance Bahrain’s importance,” he said.

In 2008, Bahrain was named the world’s fastest growing financial centre by the City of London’s Global Financial Centres Index. Bahrain is also becoming known as a growing Gulf attraction. The Bahrain Formula One grand prix, horse racing and golf is also making it a sporting leisure destination.
