Royal Caribbean International is increasing the length of its Dubai-based season for the 2,501-passenger Brilliance of the Seas during the winter 2011-2012

Royal Caribbean International is increasing the length of its Dubai-based season for the 2,501-passenger Brilliance of the Seas during the winter 2011-2012 season due to feedback from travel professionals that there is demand for those cruises.

The Brilliance of the Seas debuted cruises from the United Arab Emirates in January 2010 with the ship operating a series of eight-night fly/cruise itineraries until April 2010.

Sales for 2009 and 2010 in the U.K. and Ireland were 30 percent ahead of target for the cruise line’s first four-month season from Dubai. Agent feedback that they enjoyed significant client interest for cruises in the Middle East as well as the strong airlift from across the country direct to Dubai, drove the decision to increase the number of cruises on offer during the third season in the region. The ship’s return to Dubai in November 2011, two months earlier than previously planned, will offer an increased range of itineraries, including longer cruises up to 18-nights.

During the 2011-2012 season, Royal Caribbean also will continue to offer seven-night cruises departing weekly from Dubai. In fact, there will be double the number of seven-night itineraries compared to previous years, with minor changes to the itinerary, including an overnight stay in Dubai at the end of the cruise, rather than the beginning, and a revised order in the ports of call to simplify visa processing. Featured ports of call include Fujairah and Abu Dhabi in the UAE and Muscat, Oman.

The A380 will operate EK516 on the Dubai-Delhi route on Thursday 15th July, 2010 departing Dubai 10:10 hours, arrive Delhi 14:50 hours

Emirates to bring its A380 to Delhi in July 2010
Special one-way fare of AED380 plus taxes from Dubai to Delhi

The launch of Terminal 3 at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport just got bigger! Emirates is all set to become the first international carrier in Indian Civil Aviation history to bring to India the world’s largest passenger aircraft, the Airbus A380.

To celebrate the launch of the new terminal at the IGI Airport, Emirates has commissioned a special commercial service of the 517-seat A380 offering passengers flying from Delhi to Dubai a one-off opportunity to experience the aircraft’s grandeur, not to mention its luxurious onboard amenities.

The A380 will operate EK516 on the Dubai-Delhi route on Thursday 15th July, 2010 departing Dubai at 10:10 hours and arrive in Delhi at 14:50 hours. The aircraft will be at the IGI Airport for three hours before it returns to Dubai as EK517 departing Delhi at 17:50 hours.

Bookings for this special flight opens on 6th June, 2010 with a special one-way fare from Dubai for AED380 plus taxes or return for AED990 plus taxes. The fare is valid only for bookings made on the special flight of the Emirates A380.

Mr. Majid Al Mualla, Emirates’ Senior Vice President – West Asia and Indian Ocean, said, “Emirates has been flying to Delhi since our first day of operations in 1985. Twenty five years on, 10 destinations and 184 weekly flights certainly represent the efforts and investment that have gone into building a strong relationship with India.

“The fact that we are bringing the A380 here is a reiteration of the potential that we see in the Indian market and our intent to partner with the nation in its growth. Over the years, Emirates has evolved to become a company that is global in its operations but firmly connected with the Indian mindset and the consumer.”

Emirates last week placed an order with Airbus for an additional 32 A380s, taking the total firm order for the iconic airliner of the 21st century to 90 and signalling the carrier’s confidence in the long-term growth of air travel. The order, valued at $11.5bn at list prices, reaffirms Emirates’ status as one of the world’s leading carriers and of Dubai as a central gateway to worldwide air travel.

The massive bird, which will fly into the Indian skies for the very first time, is expected to attract huge crowds. The event will be a momentous occasion not just for Emirates and the IGI Airport, but for Indian aviation.

Emirates’ A380 is renowned for its First Class Private Suites and Shower Spas. The much-acclaimed super-jumbo offers an Onboard Lounge for First Class and Business Class passengers, with a wide range of drinks and canapés, as well as the space to socialise or simply relax.

Passengers in all classes can lose themselves in the quietness of the aircraft and the much-enjoyed, award winning ice in-flight entertainment system. There are more than 1,000 channels of on-demand entertainment, including 200 movies from around the world, 100 TV channels, more than 500 audio channels, 100 video games and news, sports and business headlines.

Emirates, the largest operator of the A380, currently flies 11 of the aircraft serving popular destinations for travellers including London Heathrow, Toronto, Bangkok, Paris, Jeddah, Seoul, Sydney and Auckland. It will fly to Beijing from 1st August, to Manchester from 1st September and resume services to New York from 31st October 2010. The airline recently inducted a brand new A380 into its fleet, taking the total number of A380s to eleven.

RAK to carve its niche in the low-cost, freight, maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) services subsectors

Though there has been no shortage of news coverage about the state of the Gulf’s airline industry after the international economic crisis, there are plenty of developments in the aviation sector ongoing outside the public eye, especially in Ras Al Khaimah (RAK).

Investment in the sector is taking off, with huge expansion plans from practically every carrier. Oman recently increased the operating capital of its national airline, Oman Air, six-fold, from $130m to $777m. Low-cost carrier Air Arabia, coasting on net profits of $123m in both 2008 and 2009, has placed an order for 44 new craft and invested $50m in a new hub in Casablanca. Qatar Airways has ordered a staggering $40bn worth of new aircraft. And RAK Airways has invested more than Dh100m ($27.22m) in infrastructure projects and plans to invest at least Dh550m ($149.74m) upgrading and expanding RAK Airport. But investment is not necessarily translating into profits: of the four carriers just mentioned, Air Arabia is the only one to turn a profit in the last two years.

The major upgrades across the board mean that interested parties are competing for slices of what is still a very small pie. According to the International Air Transit Authority (IATA), only about 10% of the world’s air traffic passes through the Middle East. While all estimates predict strong growth in the region – Boeing figures estimate revenue passenger km (RPKs) will increase at a compound annual growth rate of 6.6% between 2008 and 2028, and a report from the Kuwait Financial Centre (Markaz) predicts passenger traffic will more than double by 2014 to 280m from 126m in 2008 – the level of investment in the sector is well out of proportion to the region’s short-term revenue potential.

Even if the impressive passenger and freight growth of the last few months (16.5% and 21.4%, respectively, according to the IATA) continues, prices will have to increase exponentially for investors to see a return on the estimated $45bn that is being poured into the sector over the next four years.

This disproportionate spending is understandable in this fast-developing area, where cash-rich governments, who are often the principle investors in the region’s airlines, can afford to swallow short-term losses in order to capture long-term market share. Growing populations, and clout on the world economic stage, mean that the percentage of air traffic passing through the Middle East will almost certainly soar beyond the current 10%. But with so much competition, it will be hard for all the current players in the industry to ride the rising tide.

RAK’s plans for its aviation sector reflect an understanding of just how tricky it will be to gain market share while competing with more well-funded and longer-established neighbours. Rather than pursuing the high-end market – where it would compete with the well-known Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, and Gulf Air, and rising contender Oman Air – RAK has chosen to carve its niche in the low-cost, freight and maintenance, repair and operation (MRO) services subsectors.

Included in the emirate’s business plan is a commitment to position RAK International Airport as “a low-cost airport with very competitive tariffs directly contributing to airlines’ bottom line”. This appears wise: low-cost carriers have been the brightest spot in the Middle East’s aviation industry throughout the recession, raking in profits even as the regional airline industry lost $1.2bn in 2009.

In addition, RAK Airport’s central location – close to key ports and industrial zones, far enough from Dubai to have clear air space – makes it an enticing base for freight consolidation. Worldwide freight traffic shot up 28.3% in January 2010 compared to the same time last year, while passenger demand grew a more modest 6.4%. Location is also key for RAK’s MRO ambitions: RAK lies within easy reach of the Middle East, North Africa, and the Indian subcontinent, areas which are all currently underserved by existing MRO facilities.

There is, undoubtedly, much room for growth in the aviation sector throughout the Middle East. Governments are right to invest in crucial infrastructure for future growth. However, it is important to avoid duplicating the same infrastructure too many times within the region. RAK’s decision to pursue niche markets seems well placed to not only take flight, but also soar.

Hamra Hotels & Resorts Successfully Participated in ITB Berlin 10 – 14 March 2010

With Arabian hospitality and a diverse offering the group’s stand was one of the busiest during the World’s leading Travel Trade Show in Germany

Hamra Hotels and Resorts, a leading hotel developer and operator in the region, has announced that its participation in the recent ITB Berlin from 10 to 14 March 2010 was a major success and put Ras Al Khaimah and its leading group of hotels on the map of the global travel industry.

Being the World’s leading Travel Trade Show with more than 180,000 visitors, among these 108,000 trade visitors, and over 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries, ITB Berlin is the leading B2B-Platform of all the tourism industry offers with all levels of the value added chain present from tour operators, booking engines, destinations, airlines and hotels up to car rentals.

On a stand of 153 square metres, Hamra Hotels & Resorts promoted the beautiful Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah and all the unique hotel properties that have made this charming place one of the top tourism destinations of the Middle East.

Dr. Khater Massaad, Managing Director, Hamra Hotels & Resorts, stated: “We have been present in ITB Berlin for years and really feel home there. Apart from the fact that it is one of the key events in the tourism industry, it is also held in Germany, one of our main traveller markets that deserve our special attention. Promoting a fantastic business and holiday destination like Ras Al Khaimah is always rewarding, especially in a country with an average of 200 days of rain per year and never-ending winters with minus degrees and snow even in March like this year. We always bring a little bit of extra sunshine to ITB, paired with the Arabic hospitality the Middle East is famous for. Visitors flock to our stand to try Chef Ahmed’s delicious shawarma, Arabic coffee and tea or any of the mouth-watering Arabic sweets we always bring along.”

He continued: “What made this year’s participation special for us was that it was the first time to appear as a full-fletched group of hotels, promoting all the existing, new and upcoming properties of Hamra Hotels & Resorts in Ras Al Khaimah. The beauty of our group of hotels is that it was built with a vision of having a dedicated property for each bespoke requirement of today’s leisure and business traveller. We now have Al Hamra Fort Hotel & Beach Resort and the adjacent Al Hamra Village Resort as our well-established beach destinations, mainly for the leisure market, offering hotel rooms, serviced apartments and town houses. Khatt Springs Hotel & SPA, romantically located in the Hajjar Mountains, offers a relaxing mountain retreat with surpassing SPA facilities. Our newly opened Acacia Hotel in the heart of Al Jazeera Al Hamra’s business district is geared towards the needs of business travellers or budget holidaymakers. Our luxury travellers will find a second home in the 7-star The Palace, which is due for opening in October 2010, whilst the adjacent Al Hamra Residences with its concept of high-standard serviced apartments, will be launched next month already. The Palace as our latest and most prestigious development was the star of our stand in ITB. This visionary concept that comprehensively caters to the needs and requirements of every visitor to this beautiful Emirate, was highly appreciated by the event audience and recognized as a unique selling point of our group of hotels. It was successfully embraced by the public, media and trade alike, which translated into an excellent interest from many existing business partners and a huge response from new tour operators as well. Ras Al Khaimah presented itself as a proud individual entity with a diverse offering unlike most exhibitors of the show, whereby our group was complemented by our colleagues of Banyan Tree Al Wadi Desert Resort (the newly opened luxury desert resort of our sister company Rakeen, managed by the Banyan Tree Group), Hilton and The Cove Rotana, who teamed up with us on the stand and whose highly valued cooperation completed the Ras Al Khaimah brand. It has to be said that the Middle East in large had a very good exposure and major representation in the event. ITB Berlin 2010 was a great success for all of us, and we look forward to being there again next year.”

flydubai, Dubai’s first low cost airline, has announced a brace of GCC routes to kick off what is set to be a very busy year of route announcements for the carrier.

Kuwait City and Muscat will bring flydubai’s network to thirteen routes and with a double daily service operating to both cities the flights are sure to be popular with both business and leisure travelers. Eager travellers won’t have long to wait as the flights to Muscat begin on Sunday, 28 March 2010, and Kuwait on Tuesday, 30 March 2010.

Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai said: “A strong GCC network is at the heart of flydubai’s strategy in this region so Kuwait and Oman were natural choices to be our next two destinations. Both are old friends of the UAE and we are deeply committed to strengthening our links further by providing the friendly low cost air service with the lowest prices that flydubai is becoming known for. We have worked closely with the authorities in both countries and we are very appreciative of the help and support they have given us. We look forward to continuing to work with them to provide a service that will be of benefit to all parties.”

The new destinations share long trading and family histories with the UAE and are highly popular routes, but for different reasons. For Kuwait City, commerce has always been the major link to the UAE with tourism only growing strongly in recent times because of the country’s strong Islamic traditions. On the other hand Oman’s wadis, pristine beaches and mountains have proven irresistible to tourists.

“Kuwait is growing in strength – its businesses are thriving and its economy expanding. Infrastructure developments, urbanisation and a new port at Bubiyan Island are all signs of this – and its location on the edge of the more populous northern regions of the wider Middle East will support its future,” Ghaith added.

“Oman has a special relationship with the UAE as a place to seek relaxation, mountain scenery and unique wildlife. But it is also growing in importance from a business perspective with its position on the Indian Ocean making it an important trading and political nation,” he continued.

Kuwait’s tourism industry is in its infancy and flydubai is looking to provide support to its ever-increasing selection of luxury hotels and resorts. It is more that 80 years since Kuwait International Airport opened and with flydubai’s new service there will be 47 airlines serving the oil rich state.

For Oman flydubai is hoping to support the Sultanate’s aim to host 12 million tourists by the year 2020; its scenery, culture and colonial history, including Muscat’s famous walled city, forts and palaces have made it a magnet for tourists for many years.

The twice daily flights to Kuwait cost from just AED 200 one way including taxes. FZ053 and FZ061 will leave Dubai at 0705hrs and 1915hrs respectively, arriving in Kuwait City at 0755hrs and 2005hrs local time respectively. The return flights, FZ054 and FZ062 leave at 0840hrs and 2050hrs and arrive at 1120hrs and 2330 local time.

For Oman, which also boasts twice daily flights, the price will be from AED 250. FZ043 and FZ045 will leave Dubai at 0625hrs and 1625hrs respectively, arriving in Muscat at 0725hrs and 1725hrs local time respectively. The return flights, FZ044 and FZ046 leave at 0810hrs and 1810hrs and arrive at 0910hrs and 1910hrs local time

The airline’s existing eleven destinations are: Beirut-Lebanon, Amman-Jordan, Damascus and Aleppo-Syria, Alexandria-Egypt, Djibouti-Africa, Doha-Qatar, Khartoum-Sudan, Baku-Azerbaijan, Bahrain and Kathmandu-Nepal.

The flydubai model is simple, with customers paying only for the services they want to receive. The price includes all taxes and one piece of hand baggage, weighing up to 10 kg, per passenger.

Passengers have the option to purchase checked-in baggage in advance at just AED 40 for the first piece and AED 100 for the second, weighing up to 32 kg, subject to availability. Checked baggage at the airport is also strictly subject to availability and passengers are advised to book online early to secure the space, as only pre-purchased baggage can be guaranteed.

A nominal payment of AED 5 allows customers to select their seat and just AED 50 secures the extra legroom positions. Bookings can be changed for a small fee, plus any difference in the fare, and food and drink can be purchased on board.

flydubai operates from a modernised and enhanced Terminal 2 on the north side of Dubai International Airport.

Emirates Airline has announced the launch of flights to Amsterdam from 1st May 2010

21 December 2009

Emirates Airline has announced the launch of flights to Amsterdam from 1st May 2010. This is the fourth new destination to be announced this year by the Dubai-based carrier. Durban and Luanda were both launched in October and Tokyo was recently announced with a start date of 28th March 2010.

His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group, said: “We are extremely pleased to announce a new service into Europe at this time and I’m sure it’s a development that will be welcomed with open arms in The Netherlands. Amsterdam is already an important offline market for Emirates and we know there is significant passenger traffic heading from Amsterdam to Dubai and onto Africa, the Indian Sub-continent, Asia and the Far East.”

“This is also a major freight hub and one of the world’s renowned flower centres. Emirates has served The Netherlands as a freighter destination for fifteen years and currently offers six 747-400 freighter flights a week between Dubai and Amsterdam. The daily passenger flight will allow us to bolster our cargo offering by making use of the belly hold capacity,” he added.

The daily, non-stop service from Dubai will be operated with a combination of 777-200LR and 777-300ER aircraft, boasting a three-class configuration and the newest version of ice, the passenger revered in-flight entertainment system.

Bahrain became flydubai’s 10th route

21 December 2009

Bahrain became flydubai’s 10th route as flight FZ015 from Dubai touched down at the Bahrain International Airport on the 13 December 2009. It is the airline’s second GCC destination.

The inaugural flight comes within days of the airline taking delivery of its sixth aircraft and less than a month after the Dubai Airshow, where financing, logistics and maintenance deals worth nearly $200m were announced.

flydubai’s Chief Executive Officer Ghaith Al Ghaith, who was among the passengers of the inaugural flight, spoke at a press conference on arrival. “Bahrain is extremely important to intra-GCC trade. The Kingdom has a history of being a logistics hub and is still investing heavily in that. The King Fahd Causeway, a 25km link to Saudi Arabia, is used by around 12m passengers every year, as well as providing a route for hundreds of thousands of tonnes of cargo to cross between the two Kingdoms. The future causeway to Qatar will further enhance Bahrain’s importance,” he said.

In 2008, Bahrain was named the world’s fastest growing financial centre by the City of London’s Global Financial Centres Index. Bahrain is also becoming known as a growing Gulf attraction. The Bahrain Formula One grand prix, horse racing and golf is also making it a sporting leisure destination.

Lebanese prodigy, singer/songwriter and composer Ziad Rahbani to perform for a huge fan base his unique classical, jazzy, & his very own authentic repertoire.

Ziad Rahbani Live In Concert At The 8th Skywards Dubai International Jazz Festival

Lebanese prodigy, singer/songwriter and composer Ziad Rahbani to perform for a huge fan base of his unique classical, jazzy, & his very own authentic repertoire!

An ensemble of professional musicians will join Rahbani on stage to present the best of all his compositions on the night of Wednesday 17 February 2010 at Dubai Media City Outdoor Amphitheater.

Ziad, is a controversial figure musically and poetically, he has been gathering both fans and critics which typifies the importance of Ziad in the Lebanese, Arabic and international artistic field.

He is an inimitable artist of all sense with an unlimited integration and composition skill of the oriental and western music that had with no doubt appealed to all nationalities and tastes worldwide.

Multi-talented Ziad Rahbani, descendent of a musically prominent Lebanese family, is the son of the Lebanese famous composer Assi Rahbani and the legendary Lebanese singer Fairuz. He composed many songs for his mother Fairuz, as well as other singers, and he had released many of his own music albums like: Bi hal shakel, Abou Ali, Halleluja, Shareet Ghayr Houdoudi, Houdou Nesbi, Ana Mouch Kafer, Hakaya al Atfal, Bema Enno, Monodose and Maaloumat Akidi for Latifa, a well know Arabic Pop star. Many of his musicals satirize the culture and social debates of his home country Lebanon during and after the civil war; others addressed more philosophical questions. He played the lead role in all his sell-out plays in the 70s, which are till date the finest and most popular of what was produced within his district and the Arab world overall.

He has also done some orchestrations for songs like “Madih el Zoll el Ali”, “Ahmad el Zaatar” and “Moussakafoun noun”. Rahbani has also mixed several albums such as Al raei el 3aam and Moussakafoun noun.

Ziad has held concerts like the Oriental Jazz Concert in the BUC Irwin Hall, the Las Salinas Concert, the Forum de Beirut Concert, the Picadilly Concert, and “Mniha Concert” in Mont La Salle Ain Saadeh, the latter with his cousin Ghassan Rahbani amongst a long list of other successful performances.

“Ziad’s appearance will be by far an exceptional success, and is expected to attract a large audience from all around the region”, declared Anthony Younes, founder and organizer of the festival.

Till present Ziad Rahbani’s sell-out shows are the most awaited acts in the Arab world, where he is highly perceived as THE mastermind of music.

Same night will feature Acid Jazz pioneers, The Brand New Heavies, Jazz sensation James Taylor Quartet and U-Nam.

About Rihanna
Discovered by a record producer who was vacationing on her home island of Barbados, Rihanna has achieved amazing success in just four years as a recording artist. Signed by then-CEO of Def Jam Recordings, Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, after her first audition, she rocketed onto the international music scene in the summer of 2005 with her debut album, Music of the Sun. ‘Pon de Replay,’ the album’s stand-out single, caught fire almost immediately, securing the number two position on The Billboard Hot 100 list. Rihanna’s sophomore effort, A Girl Like Me, enjoyed even greater success and featured three hit singles: chart-topper ‘S.O.S.’ and two Top Ten hits, ‘Unfaithful’ and ‘Break It Off.’

The pop diva’s third album, Good Girl Gone Bad (2007), propelled her to new heights of stardom. Hailed by critics as a first-rate dance-pop album, Good Girl Gone Bad featured several wildly-successful singles and included collaborations with Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Timbaland, and StarGate. The lead single, ‘Umbrella,’ shot to number one, as did ‘Take a Bow’ and ‘Disturbia.’

In support of Good Girl Gone Bad, Rihanna embarked on her first headlining tour in September 2007, playing multiple shows across the U.S., Canada and Europe. In April 2008, she began performing with Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco and N.E.R.D. on the ‘Glow in the Dark’ tour, and in August of the same year, she collaborated with West along with Jay-Z on the massive hit single, ‘Run This Town.’ Rihanna is planning a global tour in support of her fourth studio album following its release in late November 2009.

An acclaimed singer-songwriter, Rihanna has received over 50 prestigious musical accolades to date, including a Grammy award, a BET award, two MTV Video Music Awards and three Billboard Awards.

________________________________

At the young age of 21, Barbados-born beauty Rihanna has already earned the coveted title of international superstar. In just a few short years, Rihanna has helped redefine the path of popular music for a new generation. In addition to her mind-blowing musical successes, Rihanna has created a charity organization for children in need as well as having signed on to endorse a number of multi-billion dollar companies including Parlux fragrances and Cover Girl, in which she joined the ranks of musical icons and celebrity powerhouses such as Queen Latifah, Drew Barrymore and Faith Hill. In addition, Rihanna was the face of Gucci’s Tattoo Heart Collection Campaign in 2008 to raise funds for UNICEF.

It.s hard to imagine that just four years ago, Rihanna was a young girl living in the beautiful Barbados parish of Saint Michael. Her first connection to the music industry came when she met a vacationing music producer named Evan Rogers from New York City. After an impromptu performance for Evan, he was absolutely certain she would one day make history. Soon after, Evan and Rihanna traveled to the Big Apple in search of a record deal. It took just one meeting with Jay-Z for Rihanna to score her big break; Jay, who had just recently been appointed the President of Def Jam Records, was so taken by the young singer’s arresting natural talent that he signed her to the legendary label on the spot.

In 2005, Def Jam released Rihanna’s dynamic debut album, Music of the Sun, which garnered much attention due to the popularity of her highly addictive dancehall-flavored first single, “Pon de Replay”. A year later, she released her platinum-selling second album A Girl Like Me, featuring the #1 singles “SOS” and “Unfaithful”.

With two successful albums under her belt in just two years, Rihanna dropped her third and multi-platinum LP, Good Girl Gone Bad, in 2007. The album’s first single, “Umbrella,” was the undisputed number one pop song of the summer and dominated the U.S. pop, urban and crossover Billboard charts for 252 weeks in a row. “Umbrella” was also the #1 single on the UK singles chart for eleven consecutive weeks and went on to win “Video of the Year” and “Monster Single of the Year” at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. Her extensive accomplishments also include multiple #1 hits, a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “Umbrella” along with six additional Grammy nominations, two MTV Video Music Awards, a Teen Choice Award, Favorite Pop/Rock & Soul/R&B Female Artist at the American Music Awards, three Billboard Awards, four MTV Europe Music Awards nominations including “Album of the Year, and she was named “Best International Act” at the European MOBO Awards.

Good Girl Gone Bad showed Rihanna’s many layers as a singer, performer and musician. With a cohesive collection of body rockin’ tracks that include highly innovative production work from Timbaland and Tricky Stewart, along with the songwriting.
